March Madness 2016 Betting Lines Explained

Time again for March Madness to fill us with NCAA basketball betting excitement! Before you make any of your NCAA predictions, we can learn a little about betting lines. When making bets using free betting lines, or point spread, there is no favorite college team you are betting on to win. What you’re betting is, how many points that team will win or lose by.

This can help bring around any lopsided game and make it interesting. If you want, you can bet that a down and out team will not lose by 20 points, or make a wager that a team will make a blowout of a win. Maybe there is a highly favorable team you want to bet will win by 10 points.

What Are Betting Lines

Betting lines, or point spread lines have symbols of + and – for their use. When there is a betting line of (+) sign for a team, that is an indication they must win that game or lose by a number of points fewer than what is shown in the line.

When there is a betting line of a (-) sign for a team that is an indication they must win by a number of points larger than what is shown in the line.

Typical betting lines have numbers such as Duke with +3.5 or Kansas -3.5. In this situation, three points or less is needed by Duke for a marked win. Kansas must have at least four points to cover and a win to be graded.

There are times when a whole number is used for the betting line. If the exact number is what favored team wins by it is thought of as and your risk amount returned to you.

Payouts are determined by the money line odds, fixed to the point spread.

Good luck with your NCAA prediction on all your March Madness NCAA basketball betting.
